We were contacted by a distressed new business customer needing help due to a cyber-attack. The attacker managed to gain access to an old, unused (but still active) account to control a specific machine and install a virus.
On October 24 2017, websites not using a secure HTTPS connection will be flagged as ‘NOT SECURE’ when customers visit.
This is being driven by Google actively pushing towards a more secure web for all users. Part of that is to have the secure HTTP * across all sites.
HTTPS also makes it difficult for hackers, internet providers and Big Brother to see what you are doing. Some of you may have already noticed a change in browsing as in January 2017, Chrome flagged sites identified as collecting credit card data with SSL certification installed.

Microsoft is pushing the roll-out of Windows 10 through a background automated download to users machines running Windows 7 and 8 set to accept automatic updates. They did this by tagging the Windows 10 Upgrade as ‘Recommended’ instead of ‘Optional’ within the Windows Update scheduler. Essentially this means anyone with Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 with automatic updates activated will download the update without being prompted beforehand.
